Dangerous Superstition Mountain Rescue

Just after noon today a base jumper, leaping off the Superstition Mountains near Lost Dutchman State Park, ran into serous problems when his parachute malfunctioned and pulled him back into the mountain. He apparently free fell a few hundred feet until he became lodged on a small crevice about 200 ft above the bottom of the mountain….

More Superstition Mountains

A couple of days ago we looked at pictures of these mountains from the base. In this shot we are on our way up there. No, we didn’t make the top, and No we didn’t try but we had a great walk and loved it. We are “walkers” not “climbers” if you catch the distinction. In…

Beware of The Pink Sisters

Don’t be tricked by the charm and the smiles. These two women are legendary throughout the southern Arizona desert country for their evil ways. The way they prey on defenseless young men is “heartless”. I mean these ladies are wicked. And here,by pure coincidence, are two “innocent young men”. Will we be captured by the…

Lost Dutchman State Park

Now here’s a cactus with personality! Yesterday we learned that Saguaro Cactus  (pronounced saw-war-o) can live to be 200 years old and doesn’t even begin to grow it’s arms until it reaches 50 to 75. Can you imagine the stories that this old guy can tell? We had a great day in the desert, did…

Superstition Mountains

How can I possibly add anything to that picture? We are at Lost Dutchman State Park sitting under the Superstition Mountains and they are my entire focus since we got here yesterday afternoon. I need to do some exercises on my neck because it’s getting sore from looking up all the time. We are both…

An Inflatable Dam

Not a day goes by that I don’t learn about something new and you know that when I get one that makes me go “wow” I share it with you. Linda is taking us for a walk on the boardwalk along Tempe Town Lake yesterday and is explaining that the man-made lake is controlled by…

Arizona Folk Like Milk

We are  in the dry-camping area of the Tempe Arizona Elks for a couple of days and  are sitting accross the street from the biggest dairy (milk factory) I have ever seen in my life. I swear their buildings cover blocks. To feed this monstous dairy products machine every few minutes a tanker truck full of raw milk arrives from…

High In Fibre

A couple of weeks ago we were talking about how, when I was a young gaffer, I used to enjoy the date squares my mother made for us. Marilyn reads my blogs too (in fact she subscribed so that every morning I deliver one to her too); She had some extra time yesterday,  even after all…

Desert Gem

We are at the Desert Gem RV Park near Salome Arizona, about 80 miles north-west of Phoenix. Our washer is going almost non-stop and we will leave here tomorrow with an empty laundry hamper, all cleaned up ready do more camping. I use the word camping because that’s what we all used to do. Then, for…
